Manpreet says PPP will play kingmaker

Bathinda, February 11 (DNS)- Predicting a hung assembly in Punjab, People's Party of Punjab supremo Manpreet Singh Badal today claimed no political outfit would be able to form a government in the state without his party's support. Manpreet along with his father Gurdas Singh Badal was here to express grief over the demise of PPP's Bathinda (Urban) constituency candidate Sukhdeep Singh Bhinder's father Pritpal Singh. The PPP president claimed there was a triangular contest between the Congress, the SAD-BJP and the PPP in the assembly elections. He claimed, “There would be an unexpected result this time as the state people had voted silently." Sanjha Morcha will play crucial role, says Yechury

Ludhiana, January 28 (DNS)- The People's Party of Punjab-led Sanjha Morcha will play a crucial role post-elections, said senior CPI (M) leader and Politburo member Sitaram Yechury, after addressing rallies in support of PPP candidates in Doaba. Yechury said: "This is the first time that the people of Punjab have got an alternative other than the Congress and the Akali parties. Like football, the people would run between two goal posts. Manpreet seeks vote for change

Mohali, January 28 (DNS)- People’s Party of Punjab (PPP) president Manpreet Singh Badal today sought vote to bring change and wipe out corruption, nepotism and officialdom from the state. Addressing a gathering in Phase 8 here, he said, “No significant change has come in people’s life and the time has come to vote to bring change.” Reiterating the political development that led to his resignation from the SAD, he said he had sacrificed his position and honour for the sake of moral values and principles. “The time has come to provide education, infrastructure, health and medical facilities to the residents,” he said adding that the Congress and Akali Dal had ruined the state. Ropar tourist complex to be revamped

Ropar, May 10 (DNS)- Pinkcassia Tourist Complex, a tourism destination here that has been lying closed for more than two-and-a-half years, is all set to be revamped. The Alchemist Group has taken over the project on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) basis on 60 years lease from the Punjab Government. Under the PPP arrangement, existing Pinkcassia building will be completely dismantled and a new building with banquet halls, as per the requirement of tourism industry will be constructed. The earlier setup had been operating with boating facility being its main attraction. It is one of the prime properties of the Tourism Department. It is surrounded by vast expanse of 75 acres of forest area on the bank of the Sutlej offering perfect destination for eco and health tourism. “However, the last Congress government decided to sell off major properties of the Tourism Department with Pinkcassia being one of them, under its disinvestment move. The projects such as that at Neelon, Amritsar and Pathankot were sold off. Thereafter, when the SAD-BJP government took over, it decided to give these projects on lease on the PPP basis,” said sources in the Tourism Department. PPP encouraged Indian Citizens living abroad to actively participate in Punjab

Oxford, May 6 (DNS)- During a talk show on Punjab Radio in London and SIKH TV in Birmingham, Mr. Amanpreet Singh Chhina, an associate of S. Manpreet Singh Badal, encouraged all Indian citizens living abroad (NRIs) to register their vote with the Election Commission of India to bring change in the Indian political system. He requested them to become members of the People’s Party of Punjab and to actively participate in Punjab politics. He emphasised that with NRIs active participation in politics and investment in Punjab, Punjab will soon become a number one state in India as before. Mr. Chhina has also stressed upon the need to have well-developed and thoughtful policies that should seriously consider the burning issues of Punjab, including Punjab’s debt. He clarified that as on 14 March 2011 Punjab’s debt has reached upto INR 77,000 Cr, which necessitates the Punjab State Government not only to adopt and implement thoughtful policies that can reduce the state’s debt but also increase the income of the state by proper tax collection and other appropriate methods. Tainted leaders must quit, says Manpreet

Ropar, April 27 (DNS)- President of the PPP Manpreet Singh Badal said here that tainted MLAs and leaders whose relatives were involved in criminal cases should resign on moral grounds. “Having such relatives is a matter of shame,” he said. In town to inaugurate his party’s office, he said six lakh people have already become members of the People’s Party of Punjab (PPP), while 25 lakh membership forms have been distributed, president PPP Manpreet Singh Badal said. Badal was here to inaugurate party’s office at Ropar. He said PPP’s membership fee was just Re 1 of which 30 P was the cost of the membership slip printed and 70 P went to the company maintaining data of its members. Party was not collecting any separate party fund from its members. “We will have a database of our members. This database will be helpful in election campaigning to be in touch with our members and propagate our activities,” said Badal. The membership drive would continue till June 30. The party has not targeted any certain number of members. “We just don’t want to increase the number of members for the sake of large head count.
